On our fourth day we decided to visit the old quarter, known as "Barri Gòtic" and some of the smaller medieval streets which have their origin in the Roman empire. We did see Barcelona's Cathedral although we did not get in because our attire was "inappropiate" (read - we were showing our shoulders!!). But we did get into Santa Maria del Mar, which is the cathedral featured in the book "La Catedral del Mar" (Cathedral of the Sea) by Ildefonso Falcones. This Cathedral is dedicated to everyone who ever lost their lives in the sea.
After that we walked towards the "Arc del Triomf" and passed the Agbar tower - locally known as Barcelona's penis - you will see why...
In the evening we all had dinner with Vero. Her boyfriend and I conspired and managed to surprise her. She had no idea I was in town! 😉
